How to use ConnectAUDIO2/4 with iOS devices

When the ConnectAUDIO 2/4 was first released the box art and documentation included indicated that you could connect an iOS device directly to it using just an Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. Changes to the power handling system since then means that this information is no longer correct. However it is still possible to connect your Lightning port equipped iPad or iPhone using the following instructions.

Note that this does not work for newer iOS devices equipped with a USB-C connector. To operate with a USB-C equipped iPad, please see our Knowledge Base article on using USB-C.

For operation with Lightning port iOS devices you will need the following items:

1. ConnectAUDIO2/4 (CA2/4)

2. USB-A to USB-B cable

3. Apple's Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter

4. A powered USB 3 hub - although we will only be passing USB 2 data, we require a USB 3 hub because it can supply the extra power that the ConnectAUDIO 2/4 requires to operate successfully. We have successfully tested with this powered hub from Qicent, but any powered USB 3 hub should work.

5. Your iOS device (iPhone or iPad)

6. Apple iOS charger - USB block + Lightning cable (included with your iOS device)

Plug your devices together using the following procedure:
  1. Connect Camera Adapter (3) Lightning connector to your iOS device (5) Lightning port
  2. Connect your standard iOS charger (6) Lightning connector to the Camera Adapter (3) Lightning port
  3. Connect your iOS charger to the mains supply - you should see that your iOS device is now receiving power
  4. Connect the powered hub main USB cable to the CCK (3) USB-A port
  5. Connect your powered hub's power supply to the mains - you should see it light up to confirm that it is receiving power
  6. Connect cable (2) from the CA2/4 USB-B port to the powered USB hub (4) USB-A port - you should see the ConnectAUDIO's front panel lights go on to confirm that it is receiving power from the hub's power supply
Once you have done all of that, you should be good to go!
